So, this starting a production company thing...it's complicated. Regardless of how much experience each company member has, we are all starting at ground level. It can be frustrating, but there is also something so refreshing about a new beginning. Ultimately, my goal is a big, beautiful show next summer to really launch this gorgeous beast of a company. On the path to that goal are a fair number of stops.
For me, the most important part of building this thing was finding the right people to work with. THAT, was very, very easy. I have been fortunate enough to work with incredibly talented people over the years. The original 'Top 5' include myself, along with Colin Brereton, Scott McLeod, Jeff Cang, and Ashley Bishop. More recently we have also welcomed Caitlin Schulz. This highly creative group started working together on amateur theatre projects in the greater Edmonton area. After wrapping a show in May 2018, we all came together to become 'Top 5 Productions'. We wanted to produce all kinds of art without the restrictions of a structured theatre season. As a collective, we are actors, singers, visual artists, writers, directors etc. We plan for 'Top 5 Productions' to be an umbrella for a number of different artistic branches. We started with a couple of intimate acoustic music performances in June and July of 2018. This allowed our company to work on material and really start to gel as a small group. Colin is not only a musician but a wonderful songwriter, so these performances also allowed him to workshop some new material of his own. Up next is a workshopping session for a brand new script 'Albert's Colours' by local playwright Peter Cameron, on August 4. Keep your eyes on this blog for details about that and our other creative ventures. Thanks for checking us out!
